All the monkeys in the zoo send their very best to you....
And they invite you to the next Ala Moana Rotary Field Trip. We're going to the Honolulu Zoo for a personalized Twilight Tour. In the wild, animals are most active at twilight. This is when the temperature is a bit cooler and they are looking for a final meal before bedding down for the evening. Zoo animals are the same, they're most active at twilight and less likely to be resting under a tree.
We will have a private tour designed only for the Rotary Club of Ala Moana. If there is any animal you absolutely want to see, let me know and we can make it happen. Dinner will not be included. |

The second phase of the Kahauiki Village project has started and 30 families have been identified and are in the process of moving in. As we did last year, the District would like to help support the residents with a starter kit to help the transition into their units. Attached is a list of items that we would like to supply them with. The suggested list is per unit, so we are asking clubs to support one unit or more, or work with other smaller clubs to provide whatever can be put together (gently used items are also acceptable). It’s no problem if all items on the list cannot be provided because we can juggle the donations. Not listed on this are utensils, plates and cups, but if you have any of these items, we can accept them and distribute them to those that need them. We have one unit onsite, designated temporarily as a donation and distribution unit to coordinate their needs, but is available only until the end of the month, so this is a short fuse situation. If the outer island clubs would like to donate money because of the logistic constraints, that would be most helpful. Checks should be written out to “District 5000 Foundation” (mail to: c/o 45-675 Luluku Rd, Kaneohe, HI 96744). Higher priced items, such as a mini-microwave would be nice to have, and we can purchase those items or give them gift cards so they can purchase the balance of their needs with your happy dollar donations. We can use whatever small donations your clubs can provide. We are planning a drop-off of items at the Kahauiki Village, at 2475 N. Nimitz Ave., between Sand Island and Keehi Lagoon on August 24th between 8:00-Noon. If you have any questions, or want to donate goods before August 24th, please contact Allen Kamemoto at 808-224-1618 or email akamemoto@hotmail.com and I can arrange for pickup. For dropoff questions, please contact Brent Llaneza, at 800-990-8163, who is the coordinator at IHS.
