September is Give Aloha Month! Rotary Club of Ala Moana members can support the Hawaii Rotary Youth Foundation (HRYF), help our club qualify to award a $5,000 scholarship, and continue a legacy with special ties to our club. Learn how Give Aloha connects RCAM, HRYF, and the legacy of former RCAM member Maurice “Sully” Sullivan—and how your gift can help Hawaiʻi’s next generation.
September is Give Aloha Month, giving Rotary Club of Ala Moana members an easy way to support Hawaiʻi students. By giving to the Hawaii Rotary Youth Foundation (HRYF), our members can help RCAM remain eligible to award a $5,000 college scholarship to a deserving high school senior. Even better, Foodland and Western Union Foundation will match a portion of Give Aloha contributions.
For RCAM, there is a special connection to this story. Maurice J. “Sully” Sullivan, founder of Foodland, was also one of the founders of the Rotary Club of Ala Moana. Sully later served as Rotary District Governor for Hawaiʻi in 1976–77. During that year, he founded the Hawaii Rotary Youth Foundation.
Sully believed education could help Hawaiʻi's young people realize their potential. His vision was to help graduating high school students attend the college or university of their choice, whether in Hawaiʻi or on the mainland. HRYF awarded its first scholarship in 1977, and Sully's vision continues through the scholarships awarded today.
That makes Give Aloha especially meaningful for our club. The Give Aloha program itself was created to honor Sully and continue his tradition of giving back to the community. When RCAM members support HRYF through Give Aloha, we are supporting today's students while continuing a legacy connected directly to one of our club's founders.
Participating is simple. During September, members can donate to HRYF at Foodland, Foodland Farms or Sack N Save using organization code 77199. Be sure to save your receipt and send a copy to Youth Service Chair Kevin McCrary so RCAM receives credit for your contribution. See our Give Aloha Flyer and How to Give Cheat Sheet for everything you need to participate.
